About Us

Established by Dr. Edna Tokayer in 2013, Elite Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists is dedicated to providing personalized care with a strong emphasis on patient education. Our mission is to empower patients to achieve their health goals through the use of advanced technology and comprehensive treatment plans. At Elite, we believe in not only helping our patients reach their goals but also encouraging them to push just a little bit further.

All physicians at Elite are board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, with rigorous training from top universities. This ensures that our patients receive the highest standard of care from highly qualified and experienced professionals. That being said, we are still a wacky bunch and enjoy celebrating together.

Dr. Edna Tokayer

Well known for her sense of humor, but better known as a board-certified endocrinologist, Dr. Edna Tokayer established Elite Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists after working for several prestigious endocrine groups. She wanted to give patients a more intimate boutique experience. Dr. Tokayer was awarded Outstanding Physician by Boca Regional Hospital for her work in diabetes education and also focuses on thyroid and parathyroid disease, pituitary, adrenal, and metabolic disorders. She has been selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor by her peers. She's joined by Dr. Angela Richter, Scott Shapiro, and nutritionist, Marcy Sloan, making the Elite Team a premier endocrine group.

Born to Holocaust survivors, Dr. Tokayer grew up and trained in New York, determined to make the world a better place. She attended Barnard College, Columbia University for her undergraduate studies before meeting her husband, rheumatologist Dr. Amiel Tokayer, at SUNY Downstate Medical School. They both went on to train at Winthrop Hospital NYU Langone. Dr. Tokayer believes that working one-on-one with patients is essential to making meaningful changes. At Elite, we provide the support to help patients reach their goals and then push them just a bit more. She and her husband have five children who make the world a more interesting place.

Dr. Angela Richter, D.O.

Dr. Angela Richter is a double board-certified endocrinologist who received her undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona, magna cum laude and with honors, and her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. She completed her internal medicine residency training at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, and completed her fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. 

Dr. Richter specializes in all hormonal disorders including diabetes, obesity, and thyroid, but she has a very special interest in the more uncommon hormonal disorders including pituitary, adrenal, parathyroid, female and male reproductive disorders (including PCOS, menopause, low testosterone, and gender affirming care), and osteoporosis. She has a passion for nutrition science and how it relates to hormonal balance and general wellbeing. During her free time, she enjoys traveling, boating, exercising, cooking, baking, listening to music, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Scott Shapiro, MMS, PA-C

Scott Shapiro, MMS, PA-C, is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Sciences from Valencia College, a Bachelor degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Miami Dade College and a Masters of Medical Science degree from Saint Francis University, all achieved with highest honors. During his time in the Physician Assistant program at Miami Dade College, he was voted “Classmate of the Year” by his peers. 

Being diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic at the age of three has allowed Scott to possess a unique perspective and approach working as a health care provider treating other diabetic patients. Scott has volunteered for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for many years and has been an active member of the diabetic community. He is passionate about sharing his journey with diabetes using not only his clinical knowledge but his own personal life experiences to help educate and treat patients. Scott's passion for education has lead him to create content for his YouTube channel, Diabetes Daily Digest, with over 25,000 subscribers, to educate those with diabetes. Scott brings over ten years of healthcare experience to Elite Endocrinology, working previously in the field of radiology.   

When Scott is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons at their home in Boca. He is also a bit of a techie and is always up to date on the latest products and innovations in the tech world.

Marci Page Sloane, MS, RD, LDN, CDCES

Marci Page Sloane is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. She grew up in New York City where she graduated from Columbia University with a double Master`s of Science degree in Nutrition and Physiology. Marci is the CEO of Food Majesty, Inc., author of Reality Diabetes and The Diet Game: Playing for Life! and is contributor to Chicken Soup for the Soul Healthy Living Series Diabetes. Marci is a nutrition and disease, weight management and healthy eating counselor who makes learning about nutrition almost as delicious as eating! Marci is passionate about her work and it shows when you meet her.
